Rumors of a twist aside, The Joe Schmo Show turned out to be exactly what it said it was: a real-life version of The Truman Show. After concluding Lap of Luxury with a scripted win for “the asshole,” Hutch, the cast revealed themselves to be actors, and host Ralph told Matt Kennedy Gould that “the only real thing on this reality show is you.” He added, “We did this all for you, buddy.” Between a mixture of shock, tears, and laughter, Matt was awarded all the Lap of Luxury prizes, including the $100,000 (contradicting his claim that he only received $10K for the show). Of course, they forgot to tell him that he was the star of a show really called The Joe Schmo Show. During an interview taped later, he said that he’s “not a big fan of the name” and said watching the actors rehearse was “bothersome in some ways.”
