Juan quits Contender citing “tougher fights.”
Juan De La Rosa, who won his fight against Tarick Salmaci last week, quit The Contender shortly after his victory. The 18-year-old fighter sustained three injuries in the fight, but the doctor asked him, “do you want to continue?” He did not, saying, “The way I was looking at it, going into the second round would be a lot tougher fights. So I decided I should pull myself out of the tournament. … I knew if I stayed in this I would’ve probably got beat. I didn’t want to lose my fight. My injuries, like I said, maybe came at the right time.” This leaves the East with one fighter left—Peter—and the West with seven. Next weeks episode features two fights between the final eight.
