NBC’s Contender will air in January; Roy Black will head up The Law Firm.
Now that FOX’s The Next Great Champ is officially on ice, having been sent to die off on FOX Spots Net, NBC has announced that, as rumored, its boxing series The Contender will air in January. NBC’s entertainment president tells The Hollywood Reporter, “We look forward to positioning this classic American success story on a proper platform in January apart from the distractions of the fall.” Ooh, harsh, calling FOX’s show a “distraction.” Meanwhile, NBC previously untitled David E. Kelley project is now officially and super-originally called The Law Firm. Its star will be University of Miami School of Law defense lawyer Roy Black, who, THR notes, “has represented such clients as William Kennedy Smith and Rush Limbaugh.” Twelve lawyers will compete and be eliminated one by one by Black.
