Contender casting, will air midseason on Tuesdays opposite American Idol.
NBC’s forthcoming Mark Burnett boxing reality series, The Contender, “will be a midseason entry on Tuesday nights—facing off its time slot against Fox’s biggest show, American Idol,” the AP reports. Open casting calls continue today, Wednesday, and Thursday in New York City, and then move on to other cities. Burnett says they’re looking for “characters” with “charisma”: “To be a star, you’ve got to be a great boxer, but you’ve also got to have great charisma. What’s wrong with boxing today? There are not enough great characters.” The show’s host and co-producer, Sylvester Stallone, showed up at yesterday’s casting call and reiterated Burnett’s thoughts: “The Contender, is not about boxing. It’s about people who box — and that’s a big difference.”
