Boxing may soon take over home makeover shows as the most overexposed reality TV subject. Sugar Ray Leonard is joining Sylvester Stallone and The Contender team. Producer Mark Burnett says “aspiring contenders will have a once in a lifetime opportunity to train with and be mentored by one of the greatest champions of all time.” In addition to that NBC show, and the boxing-related reality TV show that George Foreman is shopping, there are at least two other series being pitched. MGM is shopping a series using the Rocky franchise name, and Paramount is developing a series with Roy Jones, Jr. And according to Variety, “Don King may also be looking to jump into the fray, as may former champ Oscar De La Hoya, industry insiders said.” MGM officials say their Rocky concept “has been in the works since last May,” conceding that they may have been “moving too slowly,” an exec says.
