ArchivesNBC renews Last Comic Standing for fall, moves Contender up to November.
The success of Last Comic Standing 2 has led NBC to renew the show. The new season will debut August 31—immediately after the Olympics, and shortly after the finale of the second season. Reuters calls this “an unexpected move” and chalks it up to the fact that the series “has been a ratings standout for the network this summer and last.”
Meanwhile, NBC is moving up its Mark Burnett boxing series, The Contender, to November. It’s a move designed to kick FOX squarely in the plagiarism, as FOX’s Next Great Champ is scheduled to debut in November as well. NBC President Jeff Zucker says FOX “used to be innovators and now they’re imitators. I think that it’s not right what they’re doing and I think frankly that they should be called on it.”
