Trump’s predictable defense against his pathetic birther racism: “I picked Arsenio”
Donald Trump is an unbelievable moron sometimes, but he’s now using his selection of Arsenio Hall as the winner of The Apprentice to defend himself against criticism coming from his campaigning for Mitt Romney.
After the North Carolina Republican convention, Trump told reporters that he was responsible for Mitt Romney’s increasing poll numbers, and then said what we probably all expected but that is still as moronic.
“Somebody said, ‘Oh, because I brought up the birth certificate, I’m a racist. I said, ‘How can I be a racist, I just picked Arsenio Hall,” Trump said. That’s a version of the “I have a black friend” defense (you’ll recall that last year, he said, “I have a great relationship with the blacks”). Mostly, it’s an attempt to insulate him from the fact that questioning the legitimacy of the first black president’s birth in the United States, despite unquestionably proven facts to the contrary, is clearly rooted in racism.
That aside, it shouldn’t be a surprise that Trump keeps up this birther nonsense, even after being ridiculed by President Obama to his face last year. If there’s one thing the show has taught us about him, it’s that he’s never, ever wrong, and works to convince himself that he’s right even when that makes him look like a total fucking moron. Just watch Trump try to make his case on CNN, where Wolf Blitzer—Wolf Blitzer!—demolishes his stupidity.
