Donald Trump quits The Apprentice for “a major new TV venture”
NBC’s announcement that the network has yet to make a decision about the future of The Apprentice prompted a response from its star: Donald Trump has quit the show.
In a statement, Trump revealed that he is “moving on from ‘The Apprentice’ to a major new TV venture.” It also says, according to Reuters, “It looks like viewers will have to wait to see what Mr. Trump plans for the future. But if Mr. Trump’s past TV success is any indication of the future, then one can anticipate that millions of ‘Apprentice’ fans will be migrating to his new venture.”
According to Reuters, “[t]here was no immediate comment from NBC,” but this “statement from Trump’s organization seemed to spell a definitive end to the series.”
Earlier, executive producer Mark Burnett said he’d move the show to another network if NBC didn’t pick it up. But the statement from Trump suggests that will not happen—unless his “major new TV venture” is a clone of The Apprentice.
