NBC confirms Biggest Loser’s renewal
The Biggest Loser will return for a third season, NBC confirmed. The show’s web site has been advertising for third-season contestants for a while now, so the decision isn’t a surprise. Variety says the series “continues to show gains for the Peacock [NBC], averaging a 3.6 rating and 10 share among adults 18-49 this season (as well as 8.8 million viewers).”
The series is also pulling in cash via its merchandise, specifically a book that “entered the New York Times’ advice/how-to bestseller list at No. 4,” according to Variety. The Biggest Loser: The Weight Loss Program to Transform Your Body, Health, and Life only has a forward written by trainer Bob Harper, but despite the unknown author, the book promises to reveal “the diet and exercise plan that enabled contestants to transform their bodies and their lives on TV’s new smash hit reality show.”
Not to be left out, Jillian also has a book (Winning by Losing: Drop the Weight, Change Your Life) out, and two companion DVDs (Shape Up Complete and Maximize Complete) coming out on Dec. 20.
