As I argue in this essay, the show is uplifting, fun, and completely, unnecessarily cruel. The magic reality TV scale is the worst offender, as it tortures the person standing on it by flipping to incorrect weights before ending up on the correct weight.
Still, the show is about to become a franchise for NBC, which will spin off a companion series later this year, in addition to introducing two workout videos.
