Jake didn’t try to punch Vienna during reunion, producers say

Jake Pavelka and Vienna Girardi reunited Wednesday for a segment that will air during The Bachelorette July 5. (Apparently, producers have found a way to rescue this boring, non-headline-generating season: injecting last season’s drama.)

After they filmed the post-breakup segment, Radar claimed that “Jake Pavelka exploded in anger at Vienna and at one point during their volatile get-together he turned toward her and pulled his arm back while making a fist. It was a shocking display that left some people believing Jake was getting ready to throw a punch.”

But in a statement released to the media (here’s People’s version), producers said, “The atmosphere was emotionally charged. However, and contrary to reports that have surfaced about the interview, at no time was anyone ever physically in harm’s way, nor was anyone ever threatened with physical violence.”

Jake told Extra that he agreed to the on-camera reunion because “America was there and stood with me at the birth of our relationship, and I think I owe it to them and to myself and Vienna to let everybody be there at the end of it. That everybody understands that it was real. And I don’t regret it. I regret what is happening right now. But I don’t regret the decision that I made. I made the best decision on ‘The Bachelor.’”

Meanwhile, Jake didn’t do anything to help the claims that he in it for the publicity, as he admitted to People that he broke up with Vienna over the phone because he had to stay in character for his guest spot on Lifetime’s Drop Dead Diva. “One of the keys to acting is you have to get out of your head. This [show] didn’t hire me to be Jake, they hired me to play Toby Davlin. I can’t be Jake and sell this character,” he said. “I’ve been trying to put all that aside so that I can give this character justice. It’s been a struggle thinking about my relationship and going in front of the camera and shooting. … It was a difficult conversation on the phone. But the relationship was headed in that direction.”
