Kristen: company ripped my bad ad idea.
The Kristen Kirchner-directed ad featuring a runner slathering body wash on his face will go down as one of the biggest disasters in Apprentice 3 commercial history. Kristen was even fired because of its horribleness. Now, though, a real company has produced an ad that’s similar, and Kristen has issued a press release to let the world know. Hysterically, the press release initially got the company wrong, claiming that L’Oreal was ripping off the idea; a correction notes that “that all references to ‘L’Oreal’ should read ‘Colgate-Palmolive’ as originally issued inadvertently.” The ad for Mennen Sport body wash, which was reviewed by TVgasm recently, is remarkably similar; watch it here (click one of the two buttons next to “Pub TV Mennen Sport”). In the release, Kristen notes that “[t]his is the first time in the show’s history that such a bold, unauthorized duplication of an idea originated by the cast has surfaced.” She adds, “I cannot help but recognize the flattery of L’Oreal copying our commercial concept; however, it is definitely overshadowed by the irony that Trump fired me in part because he considered our commercial, ‘terrible.’” Clearly, Kristen is still not over this; in her press release, she reminds us that she’s “completing production on a personally financed re-shoot of the Dove Moisturizing Bodywash commercial (featuring a brand new concept) that ultimately got her fired. The thirty-second spot continues to be shot on multiple, undisclosed Southern California locations and will be released in early May.”
