Fremantle Media pays $5 million to distribute The Apprentice worldwide.
Fremantle Media won the rights to distribute The Apprentice’s format and American episodes worldwide, offering $5 million for the privilege. The company beat out other distributors, including NBC Enterprises. According to Variety, producer Mark “Burnett’s company has already sealed several ‘hybrid’ deals in key territories (with Global in Canada, Network Nine in Australia and TF1 in France) whereby the original Donald and a local format are both envisioned.” Fremantle will pick up the slack elsewhere, offering both the format and the US version of the show to whoever wants it. Fremantle also distributes the Idol franchise.
