The Apprentice

ABC turned down The Apprentice.

ABC turned down The Apprentice.
Mark Burnett first offered The Apprentice to ABC, but the network’s twit executives turned it down. Previously, ABC brilliantly turned down Survivor three times. The New York Times reports on the complicated negotiations and the debate over who did what when. But the bottom line is this: “ABC had a period of time to get the series, was unable to make a decisive offer, and lost to a network that was able to act decisively.” The blame might not fall directly on the ABC yahoos, though; ABC execs reportedly liked the series, but their hands were tied by their daddies at Disney. As the paper reports, “according to Mr. Burnett, other producers and entertainment industry executives who have dealt with or worked for ABC, the problem lies in the glut of decision makers there and impediments on spending imposed by senior Disney management, specifically its two top executives, [Michael] Eisner and [Robert] Iger.”
