The Apprentice

Sam’s $250,000 offer to Trump was actually an advertisement for Samsonite.

Sam’s $250,000 offer to Trump was actually an advertisement for Samsonite.
Sam Solovey offered Donald Trump $250,000 to hire him during The Apprentice’s live finale. Near the end, Sam said that he’d pay Trump to hire Sam, saying, “I have $250,000 in this Samsonite briefcase.” As some people noticed (link via Chris Regan), the operative word there was “Samsonite.” Sam’s stunt was actually slick product placement on his part. The Washington Post’s Reliable Source reports that “Sam went on local radio stations to brag about his business savvy” and “didn’t deny it when Brett Haber from Z104 (WWZZ) asked if he had a deal with the luggage company.” Sam’s response: “I gave them about a half-a-million-dollar ad spot on national TV. They won’t let me say a darn thing, but I will say that the briefcase was promptly shipped in from the lovely Samsonite corporation.” He wouldn’t comment about how much Samsonite paid him for the infomercial.
