The Amazing Race 8

minimum age for Amazing Race 8 family edition lowered from 12 to 8 years old.

minimum age for Amazing Race 8 family edition lowered from 12 to 8 years old.
The teams of four that will run The Amazing Race 8 can include kids as young as 8. That’s down from the previously announced age limit of 12. This change surprised host Phil Keoghan, who in an interview with the AP, said, “I don’t think it’s 8. I think it’s 12. (He confers with his publicist.) It’s been lowered to 8? OK, well, I didn’t know that. That’s news to me.” The official application [PDF] says, “Team members must be at least eight (8) years old but at least one (1) of the team members must be at least twenty-one (21) years old. Any team that has a minor (anyone under eighteen [18] years of age) must also have as a team member at least one of the minor’s parents or legal guardians.” That means that, conceivably, a parent or guardian could race with his or her three kids. The application also notes that five family members (and family is very loosely defined by the rules) may apply, but producers will ultimately send one person home to form a team of four. Applications are due next Friday, March 11, unless they’re submitted at an open call, and those are due by March 15.
