ArchivesAmazing Race 7 winner Joyce Agu was a recurring cast member of Star Trek: The Next Generation. She hid this from producers because, as she tells TV Guide, “I didn’t want to be known as ‘the actress’ on the show.”
Joyce played Ensign Gates, who sat on the bridge but didn’t talk too often. She says that, “In one scene, I did tai chi with Worf (Michael Dorn) and in another, they asked me to [speak] a couple of lines when Data (Brent Spiner) thought they were out of context for him.”
Joyce also appeared on Silk Stalkings, and served for many years as a casting director; she was credited as Joyce Robinson. Joyce will return to acting for a cameo with Uchenna on the June 15 episode of Guiding Light.
