The Amazing Race 5 was a spectacular trip, especially in its first few seconds, when the father part of the father and daughter team Jim and Marsha tripped, fell on his face, and tore open his knee. As they were the latest team to be eliminated, Jim now tells TV Guide about his injury. He says, “The stitches actually popped out five minutes after we were on the airplane,” but adds that he “was just concerned about infection, so I was taking antibiotics.” He also reveals the lies he told to the nurse who was stitching him up to encourage her to work more rapidly. Also, Marsha reveals that the fateful missed plane wasn’t a big deal; the problem was that the plane they were on was delayed by 30 minutes. She says, “Once we landed, we ran a really quick race. If it wasn’t for those 30 minutes, I think we could have caught up to Marshall and Lance. The producers even told us later that we were really close to beating those guys.”
