The Amazing Race 5

TAR producer: “now all of the sudden everyone realizes how good it is.”
The executive producer and creator of The Amazing Race 5 is baffled by the success of this season: “We always had a steady 8 million viewers, and all the sudden we’ve broken through, and I have no idea why, to tell you the truth. We’ve done five [editions of the show], I’ve produced 65 hours of television, and now all of the sudden everyone realizes how good it is,” Bertram van Munster tells the Chicago Tribune. He cites the show’s die-hard fans as one reason for its enduring success, but also says that, despite rumors, it never was at risk: “CBS has never given me the idea that the show wouldn’t come back. Never ever.” The Trib gives part of the credit for this season’s success to Charla Faddoul, who recently told van Munster, “Bertram, I don’t know what’s happening. People are screaming down the street, ‘There she is; there she is!’ I can’t go to the market anymore—I get crowded by people who want my autograph.”
