Amazing Race 13 debut down 25% compared to last fall, Extreme Makeover down 20%
Two Sunday reality staples both lost large numbers of viewers compared to their debuts last fall.
Ratings for Sunday’s debut episode of The Amazing Race 13 were down from last year, when the show had its best debut ever last November for season 12. Sunday, 10.29 million people watched, down significantly from the 13.8 million who tuned in last year, although that did follow a football game. It came in fourth place in its hour among viewers 18 to 49, according to TV By the Numbers, which means only Univision and The CW had lower numbers of young viewers.
Extreme Makeover: Home Edition beat The Amazing Race by about 1.7 million viewers, but that was during the second hour of its two-hour debut. It was watched by justt 7.19 million viewers in its first hour, although it grew to 11.9 million viewers in its second hour. Still, the viewers who tuned in during the 8:00 hour were “down more than 20% year to year,” Variety reports.
