The Amazing Race

Amazing Race DVD reportedly out Sept. 20; GSN airing reruns starting July 11.

It’s official: The first season of The Amazing Race is coming to DVD. We already knew that a DVD was in the works because of an interview with series co-creator Elise Doganieri, but now we have official confirmation. On Paramount’s August DVD release chart, which comes to us by way of The Chicago Tribune’s Maureen Ryan, the “Coming Soon” section includes “The Amazing Race – The First Season.” There’s no release date yet, and Amazon’s listing for the DVD still says that “the studio is currently not producing this title on DVD.”

However, TVShowsOnDVD.com reports the release date is September 20—the same day that will also be out on DVD. That’s also four years and 15 days since the first season debuted on CBS.

There’s also official word today that GSN has picked up the repeat rights for the series, and will air repeats of all eight seasons (110 episodes), and possibly the ninth and tenth. The first season will begin airing July 11 at 9 p.m. ET, with episodes airing every single evening. According to the Hollywood Reporter, “GSN is said to have paid a per-episode fee in the low- to mid-$50,000 range.”
