Not that we needed a reason to make the people who work on local news stations wear scarlet As for “asshat,” but here comes more evidence that they’re working overtime to freak us out with useless non-news. CBS News 5 in Phoenix, KPHO, reports on, and I quote, “some scoop on the upcoming season” of Survivor Vanuatu, which debuts Sept. 16. While that sounds like they actually have some real news to report, they instead say that “contestants may be in for the most dangerous conditions ever seen on the show.” Is there an outbreak of typhoid fever? A radiocative lizard roaming around? Not quite. Here’s the shocking news: “The Islands of Vanuatu are mostly un-inhabited. They are full of active volcanos. And if that’s not enough—they’re rumbling with earthquakes. The latest one measured 5.7 on the Richter scale.” Where were they when we needed to know that the Pearl Islands were surrounded on all sides by water, which is the substance people are very likely to drown in!
