Why did we not see Ami kiss her girlfriend Crissy, or Scout kiss her partner Annie, during last week’s Survivor Vanuatu episode? Executive producer Mark Burnett tells Entertainment Weekly that it was his conscious decision to cut those images, a decision that he blames on the election, the FCC, and the show’s time slot. He said,
“I’d be an idiot not to notice both the way the country voted and the backlash from the FCC that came off of Janet Jackson’s [Super Bowl debacle]. I wanted to protect my franchise and didn’t think it was right to show both lesbian kisses at 8 o’clock. I can’t be any more honest than that, can I?”Clearly, British expatriate Burnett still doesn’t quite understand the United States, as those small-minded prigs he’s worried about offending are perfectly fine with hot lesbian kisses; it’s a male-male kiss that would send them into convulsions, especially if it turned them on.
