Helen’s newspaper column killed after CBS demands to review its content.
Instead of ending up on the streets, many ex-Survivor cast members write columns for local papers analyzing the current season of the show. Survivor Thailand’s Helen Glover wrote such a column for the Providence Journal—until she revealed information that CBS says violates her contract. The paper said that wasn’t going to happen: “What CBS wants is the right to edit the work of a person writing for The Journal. We find that arrangement unacceptable.” In the March 11 column, Helen—hold your breath—“described how ousted contestants are sent to a base camp behind the scenes, where they receive a meal, a shower and a visit from a psychiatrist.” The Journal said CBS’ demands (“It was not a suggestion It was a choice—either stop writing the column or submit it in advance,” Helen says, although CBS says it was “not a requirement”) were unacceptable, and Helen’s column will no longer run.
