The half film trailer, half Lenny Kravitz music video is amusing, if a bit off tonally. It doesn’t quite seem like Survivor, but I suppose that’s the point. Also, after Jonny Fairplay appeared, I started jabbing at my eyes and couldn’t really see the rest through the blood and tears.
The first part borrows from Cloverfield and other mysterious film trailers, as fans of the show are kidnapped and sent to be contestants, although that’s obviously not clear until Jeff Probst shows up and delivers the punchline, sort of. I doubt this jokey, fun tone will continue into the season itself, because one of the show’s conceits is that it treats itself pretty seriously.
