ArchivesCBS’s schedule indicates that Survivor will be in high definition for the first time starting this season, as Engadget HD reported a few days ago. However, as HDTV Magazine reported, the schedule is incorrect, and the Fiji-set edition of the show won’t be in HD.
Why are shows such as Survivor and The Amazing Race not yet filmed in HD?
CBS executive vice president Martin Franks, who’s in charge of HD at CBS, tells the Mail-Tribune that’s because “[i]f something breaks, there isn’t a Sony store on the corner in Fiji.”
The paper reports that reality shows “are slow to move into high-definition because HD cameras are still more delicate than standard cameras.”
