Survivor Cook Islands debuts with low ratings
After all of the hype and debate, not many people tuned in to the debut of Survivor Cook Islands. Either the controversy turned people off, or the public isn’t really moved by media-inciting stunts like this one.
If anything, I expected this season to debut with strong ratings, and then diminish as people realized it wasn’t really all that controversial. But that didn’t even happen. Instead, it lost 10 percent of viewers ages 18 to 49 from Survivor Panama, and was “the lowest-rated premiere in at least the last five cycles of the show,” according to Media Life Magazine.
An average of 17.7 million people watched, enough to help CBS win the night, but which is down significantly from the 19.3 million who watched the debut of Exile Island last spring.
