Survivor photos spoil what CBS promos tease
CBS’ Survivor promos now regularly give away what will happen in upcoming episodes, but the spoiling has reached comic levels now that photos published on the network’s web site spoil relatively major plot points that its promos are teasing.
Of course, the season was spoiled as soon as cast members returned and some of them started talking to the random Catfishers they befriended on Facebook, so this is all relative anyway.
The post-episode next time on Survivor promo raised two questions: Will Tyson switch with Rachel, and will Colton quit the game? It shows Tyson standing up and quasi-threatening others, and Colton crying and going over to sit in his boyfriend’s lap. A longer version promises that “will be a shocker”, but both questions are answered in CBS photos that first appeared on its press web site and are now on its main public site.
First, this photo of the Redemption Island challenge and its caption reveal Tyson’s decision.
As to Colton, the answer is clear but a little less obvious, and requires some old-fashioned spoiler analysis. As Survivor Sucks poster ratsnsnakes first observed, the answer is in this photo of the immunity challenge.
The returnee tribe has nine people, and the newbies/loved ones tribe has seven. That means two people would have to sit out of the returnee tribe at the immunity challenge, so the number of people sitting out the challenge on the platform with Jeff Probst gives the answer: just one and Colton’s gone.
Also a clue to whether or not Colton exits: whether or not there is a chorus of angels visible in the sky in every photo in addition to a large wave created by the tears of joy from fans who are so glad he’s gone forever.
Update: There’s an even more incredible spoiler in CBS’ description of this week’s episode, so stop reading now if you don’t want to know:
“‘Opening Pandora’s Box’ - A family rivalry takes center stage, leading to an emotional breakdown. Meanwhile, the tribes watch in disbelief as a castaway quits the game and a shocking blindside plays out at tribal council, on SURVIVOR: BLOOD VS. WATER, Wednesday, Oct. 2 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.”
And, a version of that spoiler-filled text is on my DVR guide:
“A family rivalry leads to an emotional breakdown; a contestant quits the game; a shocking blindside.”
