23.6 million viewers watched the debut of Survivor Amazon, slightly more than watched the debut of Survivor Thailand and slightly fewer than Survivor Marquesas. Those numbers easily beat ABC’s Are You Hot?, which technically debuted at 9 p.m. and was watched by about 10 million people. Still, despite the competition, which included NBC’s Will & Grace, it “drew enough viewers to give ABC a long-sought-after ratings toehold on television’s most competitive night,” according to Reuters.
