Survivor All Stars

Burnett: “I didn’t think about” why no black men were Survivor All-Stars.
The nearly all-white cast of Survivor All-Stars has the series’ black male contestants asking why none of them were included. As TV Guide points out, “the only contestants of color were two women—Alicia Calaway and Shii Ann Huang.” Rob Mariano’s friend on Survivor Marquesas Sean Rector says, “There were a lot of politics involved. A lot of people aren’t talking about that, but the black people that did the show are very aware of that. It sets a real bad precedent.” Gervase Peterson is less conspiratorial, asking, “But are you trying to tell me that one black dude wasn’t good enough to be on Survivor: All-Stars?” Mark Burnett says that he “didn’t think about it.” He says he was close to casting Sean, but overall, he says, “I don’t cast by color. I just cast who I thought were the best. I will tell you — nothing to do with color.”
