Colby on HBO’s Curb: I’m more of a survivor than a Holocaust survivor.
Colby Donaldson’s CBS bio tells us that the Survivor All-Stars player “moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting.” His latest gig is quite a stretch: He plays himself on this week’s episode of HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm, Seinfeld creator Larry David’s improvised and fictional sit-com. During the early part of the episode, Larry David’s rabbi asks if he can bring a “survivor” to dinner; thinking the rabbi means a Holocaust survivor, Larry invites his father’s Holocaust survivor friend. The truth is revealed when Colby shows up. At dinner, Colby and the Holocaust survivor begin arguing after Colby insists that being on the show makes him more of a survivor, in part because the contestants didn’t have snacks or toliet paper and had to sleep on the ground. The scene ends with them shouting at each other: “I’m a survivor!” “I’m a survivor!” This sounds tasteless and humorless in a recap, but Colby plays it well, mocking himself and the reality show relentlessly.
