Jane and Andy Rice and their friends gather weekly to watch Survivor All-Stars, and for the premiere, “Jane prepared chicken tortillas. The recipe came from her stepdaughter.” They ate “shrimp and crab cakes” while watching Survivor Thailand; she does not mention where she got the recipe for the crab cakes, nor what their menu was for Survivor Pearl Islands. Jane has also created her own immunity idol, and she and her friends make “small wagers” on the game. They like Rob C. and Rupert. They did not like Osten because he quit. Jane went onto something called the Internet and “has investigated going on the show.” If she gets chosen for the show, she plans to call in sick to the job at the business she and Andy co-own. She’s probably kidding about that. And although all of this seems like it was directly plagiarized from The Onion, it’s apparently a real story in a real newspaepr about real people. The actual headline in the Danville, Kentucky, Advocate-Messenger is, and I quote, “Chicken tortillas are made for ‘Survivor’ night.” And if you’re jealous, you can make the chicken tortillas yourself, as the paper helpfully reprints the recipe online.
