ArchivesLex, Tom given second place prizes because of immunity challenge error.
Both Lex van den Berghe and Tom Buchanan were awarded $100,000 each in January, the same amount of money that Kim Johnson received (and will keep) for her second-place finish. The reason: The second-to-last immunity challenge contained a question about which female cast member didn’t have any piercings. Kim answered Kelly Goldsmith, but after the finale aired the producers learned that Lindsey Richter also has no piercings. Lex answered “Lindsey” but lost the challenge during the finale. The New York Post reports that “CBS did not make public the fact that it had designated three second-place prize winners until reporters began to ask questions yesterday.”
