Survivor Africa’s Silas Gaither says a writer for the Oscars is a friend of his manager’s, and asked the manager if Silas would work the show as a presenter. But he says he primarily did the appearance, which paid “pretty well,” as “a foreshadowing of the future,” a way to tell his parents, “‘Look at me on stage now. In a few years, I hope to be receiving one of these.’”
