A recent Starting Over storyline focuses on Allison, a woman who has breast cancer. After a mastectomy and radiation therapy, she’s now “here not only to heal herself and learn how to deal with this, but she’s willing to help everyone in her own way,” executive producer Millee Taggart-Ratcliffe tells The Starr Report. Executive producer and series co-creator Jonathan Murray says that “Mary-Ellis battled cancer for many years and had to go through a lot of the same things Allison has gone through. This story, in every way, makes us think of Mary-Ellis.” The other executive producer notes that Alison and Mary-Ellis even share the same doctor. Taggart-Ratcliffe says, “We’re trying to use Mary- Ellis’ experience to help us. The doctor that Allison is seeing is the same doctor who kept Mary-Ellis alive.”
