Skating with the Stars coming to ABC

ABC announced today that it is spinning off an ice skating version of Dancing with the Stars, which of course will be called Skating with the Stars. That’s not to be confused with the 2006 Fox series Skating with Celebrities, which is perhaps most notable for off-camera drama that led to the arrest of one of its stars for assault against her partner’s ex-wife.

Produced by BBC Worldwide Productions, the new series “pairs a celebrity with a world class ice skater,” who will “be critiqued by a panel of expert judges and will receive a set of scores based on artistry and technique and by viewers at home, with one couple being eliminated each week,” according to ABC, which was reportedly considering the show as far back as a year ago.

The new series will debut Nov. 22 and air for six weeks; its cast—of D-list celebrities, probably—will be revealed Nov. 2 during, of course, Dancing with the Stars.
