“Newly designed” Road Rules will return to MTV
Buried in the newly launched web site of Bunim-Murray’s recently announced M Theory company, which exists to repurpose and develop new content for the Internet and mobile devices, there’s some news about Road Rules, which has been on hiatus for more than a year. It’s been so long that TV.com says the show has “ended.”
However, the MTV series “is being developed to return to the network in a newly designed format which will allow the viewer to play a role in both competitions and the fate of players via broadband and mobile technology,” the web site says.
What exactly that means or how exactly that will work isn’t clear, but hopefully it’ll work better than the show’s series-killing decision to force the cast members to vote each other off the show, which started around the time reality TV began and producers for the original competition-based series got insecure over all of the vote-off shows on TV.
