Reality stars sing “We Ruined The World”: “we caused the end of humanity” in 2012

The world is not going to end today, even though Jersey Shore is over and despite the insistence of some dummies who can’t read a Mayan calendar or misuse and/or misunderstand proven science.

But at least the obsession with today’s date brought together an eclectic group of reality stars, from Survivor’s Jerri Manthey to American Idol’s Sanjaya Malakar, The Real Housewives’ Gretchen Rossi to RuPaul’s Drag Race’s Shangela.

That group of almost 20 cast members, who you may or may not recognize thanks to the cruelty of time and post-fame life, sang a parody of “We Are the World” for Wednesday night’s apocalypse special edition of E!’s The Soup. “We Ruined the World” (it was originally titled “We Killed the World”) was written by Soup writer Lee Farber.

Honestly, the collection of talent and their horrific singing is the most clever part; the lyrics are plodding and obvious and not really that funny, though it certainly has its moments (“we caused the end of humanity/with our newfound fame”; rhyming “famous” and “anus”).
