Reality Rocks will be a (stupidly titled) Comic-Con for reality TV
The publisher of The Hollywood Reporter, e5 Global Media, is launching a Comic-Con for reality TV shows, cast members, and producers that will be held for the first time next April in L.A., reality TV’s hellmouth. As of now, it is called Reality Rocks, apparently to make sure it is not taken seriously.
The April 8 to 10 event “will include a show floor, live demonstrations, stage performances, celebrity panels and an online Reality TV Awards voted on by fans and hosted at the event,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The paper notes that the event’s advisory board includes “Mark Burnett Productions; Shed Media; LMNO Productions; CMT; Oxygen Media; Casting Duo, Inc.; Sundance Channel; RDF USA and A. Smith & Co. Productions,” and Burnett’s head of development David Eilenberg said in a press release quote, “Reality Rocks is destined to become a signature event for reality TV. We relish the opportunity to connect with our amazing fans and give them the opportunity to connect with all the great on-camera and off-camera characters of our genre.”
This is not the first such convention, though it will probably be the biggest to date; a few years ago, another reality TV web site held a convention, although one year, at least, it had embarrassing attendance.
