If you didn’t sit through last night’s People’s Choice Awards, which was two hours of celebrities pretending to be surprised when they won an award even though none of their competitors showed up, you might have missed the winners in the three reality TV-related categories. First, to recap, review the nominees. Next, in the category known during the online voting process as Favorite Reality Show/Other, which was rechristened “Favorite Reality Show 24/7” during the broadcast, Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica beat out its competition. Somewhere, Ashlee reached for the phone number of an orphanage to find herself a new dad. In the new Favorite Reality Show/Makeover category, tear-jerker Extreme Makeover: Home Edition took the prize. And American Idol broke Survivor’s four-year streak when it won the Favorite Reality Show/Competition award.
