NBC poaches CBS reality exec; stores competing for reality product placement.
Companies are tripping over themselves and scratching each other’s eyes out as they compete to be featured on reality TV shows. Past success has spawned intense competition and desire for product placement. A JC Penney exec says that they desire “making a brand connection with the consumer during the program.” Sears has even hired an agency “to find it more exposure in high-profile programming,” The Dallas Morning News reports. Meanwhile, the man “credited with bringing the “Survivor” franchise to” CBS has left for NBC, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Ghen Maynard will be the executive VP of development, reporting to NBC’s new entertainment president Kevin Reilly. Maynard also developed reality shows for UPN such as America’s Next Top Model. Reilly says, “Ghen is one of the smartest TV execs in town and has had a keen eye for finding and nurturing a number of breakout hits. His contributions will make our No. 1 team even stronger.”
