Major: BBC should drop reality TV.
Even British politicians stick their faces into reality TV. Former Prime Minister John Major says he “would like to see the BBC drop trivial programmes, even if it costs ratings.” He’s specifically referring to “trivial programmes, quiz shows and reality shows” that air on the BBC, which is publicly owned. He asks, “Why should it compete with Sky television and ITV? It is a different beast.” Worse, he says that beast is dirty: “I think there are many people who look through the Radio and TV Times and are dismayed at the relatively low quality of much of the stuff that appears.”
