At the Hollywood Radio and TV Society gathering yesterday, “reality producers and execs … said they still believed in the vitality of the genre,” Variety reports. Ben Silverman, producer of The Restaurant, says “The real story of the fall is derivative programming doesn’t work.” In other words, crappy knock-offs don’t work. Producer Chuck Barris said that “[r]eality shows are basically gameshows, and gameshows are reciprocal. If (the genre) dips, it will certainly come up again.”
