The ratings of recent reality TV show “copycats” haven’t matched returning shows (like Survivor Amazon) or new formats (like Joe Millionaire). Instead, the ratings of new shows from Are You Hot to The Family to All American Girl aren’t doing well, or at least aren’t doing as well as their predecessors. Why? The answer, according to USA TODAY’s report, may lie in either oversaturation or lack of quality. ABC’s entertainment president Susan Lyne admits ABC might have screwed up: “We didn’t anticipate how difficult it would be to get attention for a crop of new reality shows in the quiet months of spring.”
