Daniel Minahan’s big-screen satire of reality TV, Series 7: The Contenders, came to theatres during the reality TV boom completely accidentally. He tells Cinema Confidential, “…[W]hen we were shooting the movie in Connecticut, we got word about this Survivor show in Amsterdam at first. We thought ‘Oh, that’s cute. They’d never do something like that on American TV.’ By the time we finished filming the movie, there was the first episode of Survivor where we were like ‘Oh my God’….”
