ArchivesNBC not producing show hosted by kidnapping victims called “Survive This!”
What appeared to be a report of a reality TV show hosted by the teenage kidnapping and rape victims is, in fact, satire. “The two girls kidnapped and raped in the Antelope Valley are set to go Hollywood,”the piece’s subtitle read, and it went on to describe a show that “will feature the crime victims introducing a new slate of contestants each week” who would “have 48 hours to find safety at a remote building made to resemble a rural sheriff’s station” while being pursued by “several paroled repeat sex offenders.” The writer told Zap2it.com that the story of the two girls telling their story in the media “begged for this kind of treatment”; he also said about half of the piece’s readers read it as satire, while the other half assumed it was real.
