is reality TV fading? if so, why?
The Albuquerque Journal’s Leanne Potts writes reality TV’s obituary, unflinchingly calling the genre dead and blaming it entirely on the events of Sept. 11. Elsewhere, however, USA TODAY’s Robert Bianco actually thinks about the issue, rather than just regurgitating what he’s read in other publications, and argues that before blaming it on Sept. 11, “we should first consider a simpler, ordinary TV explanation: There were too many reality shows at once, and too many of them were lousy.” Finally, Newsday quotes network executives who essentially contradict what some journalists are printing as fact; an NBC exec says Survivor “doing a lot better than I wish it were,” while an ABC exec says The Mole 2 was pulled simply because no one knew it was on.
