doctoral thesis on reality TV reveals why the genre is so popular now.
For Mark Andrejevic’s doctoral thesis for the University of Colorado at Boulder’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication, he talked to cast members and producers to discover why we watch reality TV. Among his findings: “it is not yet as formulaic and predictable as typical TV dramas and sit-coms,” and “[r]eality TV caters to the emerging culture of interactivity.”
