One of the Queer Eye Thom’s sexual orientation “never really entered into our decision,” a Pier 1 exec says. Maybe that’s because he—like Jai—dated women in high school and college. Or maybe it’s because advertisers and marketers are “increasingly using openly gay and lesbian celebrities in campaigns aimed not at the homosexual market but at the wider general audience,” as The New York Times reports. Or maybe it’s because Pier 1 isn’t exactly a heterosexual hang-out.
