Queer Eye

producers defend Jai and his role.

producers defend Jai and his role.
Especially compared to the other members of the Fab Five, Jai Rodriguez seems sort of, well, useless. His role on Queer Eye for the Straight Guy as the culture guy hasn’t earned him much screen time but has earned him some detractors, which prompts TV Guide to ask, “How does shopping for CDs and wearing that doe-eyed expression qualify him as an expert on anything—except how to be a teenage girl?” Ooh, harsh. The producers of the show defend him and the role. David Metzler says it “is the hardest role, by definition. … It’s the least tangible thing. You can’t touch it.” There will be “a lot more of Jai” coming next season, which starts Tuesday, as Jai “is going to put the details together that help the guy show love to his wife or girlfriend.” David Collins, the show’s other exec producer, says “Jai’s become the resource guy for the show, a walking Zagat of cultural information.”
